THE BELIEVERS -
People who knew entrepreneurship was the Chosen Path. They took the plunge straight after their MBA or after working barely a couple of years. And they persevered until they made it big!

THE OPPORTUNISTS -
These entrepreneurs did not plan to take this path but when opportunity knocked they seized it. Their stories go to show that you don’t have to be ‘born with it’; you can develop an entrepreneurial bent of mind at any age.

THE ALTERNATE VISION -
These individuals are using entrepreneurship to create social impact. Or as a platform which allows them creative expression.

Stay Hungry Stay Foolish is the story of 25 graduates of India’s Harvard, IIM Ahmedabad (IIM-A), who chose to become entrepreneurs, shunning the more conventional and comfortable option of high-paying corporate jobs.

Now, IIM-A is Bansal’s alma mater as well, and that explains several things—not just her business acumen. In writing this book, she is clearly inspired by Chetan Bhagat who incidentally went to IIM-A as well. Bansal wants to be the Bhagat of business writing. Imitation is the best form of flattery, but she could surely have included Bhagat in her personal pantheon of 25.

What we get in this book are 25 egregious hagiographic personality profiles.

It includes some big names like Sanjeev Bikhchandani (PGP 89), naukri.com In 2006, his big idea, naukri.com became the first dotcom to IPO on an Indian stock exchange. Shantanu Prakash (PGP 88), Educomp.
The story tells of sour and stingy Ebenezer Scrooge’s ideological, ethical, and emotional transformation after the supernatural visitations of Jacob Marley and the Ghosts of Christmases Past, Present, and Yet to Come. This book has met with instant success and critical acclaim.

The book was written and published at a time when Britain was experiencing a nostalgic interest in its forgotten Christmas traditions, and at the time when new customs such as the Christmas tree and greeting cards were being introduced.

Having been scorned by our pilgrim forefathers, Christmas was not even recognised as a national holiday until the mid-nineteenth century. The national ideal of what Christmas should be has descended from Britain, where Queen Victoria celebrated Christmas with German customs sprinkled all over it. A Christmas Carol carries such Victorian spirit. Dickens’s sources for the tale appear to be many and varied but are principally the humiliating experiences of his childhood, his sympathy for the poor, and the Christmas stories of Washington Irving.

The tale was pirated immediately, was adapted several times to the stage, and has been credited with restoring the holiday to one of merriment and festivity in Britain and America after a period of sobriety and sombreness. A Christmas Carol remains popular, has never been out of print and has been adapted to film, opera, and other media.

Prolific 19th century author, Charles Dickens is famous for his remarkable characters and mastery of prose in the telling of their lives. Loved for his invaluable contribution to classic English literature, his good, bad and comic characters and realistic portrayal of contemporary life in Victorian England continue to fascinate readers worldwide.

About the Author:

English novelist, generally considered the greatest of the Victorian period. Dickens’s works are characterized by attacks on social evils, injustice, and hypocrisy. He had also experienced in his youth oppression, when he was forced to end school in early teens and work in a factory. Dickens’s good, bad, and comic characters, such as the cruel miser Scrooge, the aspiring novelist David Copperfield, or the trusting and innocent Mr. Pickwick, have fascinated generations of readers. Charles Dickens was born in Landport, Hampshire, during the new industrial age, which gave birth to theories of Karl Marx and later Dickens himself gave birth to new theories in English Literature.

Each page in the book is useful to improve the way of life. Certainly, this book will contribute to create awareness among all in setting their own standards in disciplining their lives leading to good life, good society, and thereby a good nation.”

Broom & Groom is an expression of both anguish and hope. Anguish over the inadequate civic sense in our society. Hope, that once the society becomes more aware and sensitive, change will follow. The two main areas Broom & Groom focuses on are Grooming and Hygiene. On a literal level, Broom stands for Cleansing and Groom for Civility. Broom & Groom is a mirror for self reflection and a behavioral compass which will improve community living and enhance our social acceptance globally.

Moved by the ‘not so good’ image of civic sense of Indians among foreigners, India’s first woman Kiran Bedi has brought out suggestions for laymen to improve their civic behaviour ahead of the Commonwealth Games. She said, “There are article after article in foreign nations is calling Indians unhygienic and dirty. Being a true Indian, I wanted to change the scenario,” & I effort through this book with my co-author.

Co-author Pavan Chaudary says the government should stop tweaking and wake up before the games to provide good sanitation and hygiene conditions. According to the authors, the idea to write the book came due to appalling living conditions in our country and from their desire of not seeing India lag behind other nations in terms of civility. “The book tells that we are not giving up. We are starting a revival and revolution of civility. The book is for civil responsibility,” says Bedi.

Catering to a variety of sections ranging from the elite to government servants and domestic help, the book covers such issues such as restaurant and banquet manners, auditoria or airplanes must do’s, gymnasium and sports field behaviour, greeting properly as well as being a good host or house guest.

Anu Anand, publisher, Wisdom Village(Publication Division) says,” We are happy to introduce the book just before CWG. We hope our readers will learn and put their best foot forward before our guests from 54 countries during the Delhi CWG.”

The authors believe this book is the starting point of a nation-wide movement and will therefore leave no stone unturned in the promotion of the book. In fact the authors have already committed dates for launches across India. It is not only the authors dream but also their mission to create an empathetic society that builds a well-groomed nation which proudly stands shoulder to shoulder with the rest of the world.

The publisher has started a website and blog to get the feedback from the readers and their suggestions will be included in the next edition of the book. The book would also be released in Hindi and other regional languages soon.

About the Authors:

Kiran Bedi is the first and highest ranked woman police officer in India and at the United Nations. She is the winner of the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award, the Asian equivalent of the Nobel Prize. Kiran has been voted as the most trusted and admired woman of the country, time and again. She has authored books, and hosts a popular TV show ‘Aap Ki Kachehri’.

Pavan Choudary is the author of path breaking books like, When you are Sinking Become a Submarine, A Trilogy of Wisdom (A Modern Day Commentary on Three Grandmasters of the East Chanakya, Confucius and Kabir) and The Rx Factor. A successful practitioner, Pavan is also the Managing Director of Vygon, a leading French Multinational and hosts the TV program Hum Aise Kyon Hain on Doordarshan.

Lets start from office itself, everybody’s office is sometimes a boring place or an exciting place depending upon whether it’s a Monday or a Friday (or a Saturday, in case you are working for a 6 day work-week company. Suggestion is, you should change your company!). Its found that humanly its impossible to display the same kind of passion and energy at the workplace every day.

His sense of supreme exhilaration even in anticipation of going to office is simply awesome. And no! It need not be a Friday. Any day of the week, he wears the same delightful face and enthusiasm. Kuttappan thanks his company’s management for their support and the very specific efforts they take to enable employees to become extremely passionate about their work. How he do all this, you will be told in the book itself.

Exploring the soul needs reflection. Reflection leads to realization, realization leads to wisdom and wisdom is the path to enlightenment.

Many questions arise in our mind about life and the answers we try to search. We search them outside and that`s where the problem lies. The answers are so simple, we tend to overlook. As they say, sometimes the simplest things are the most complex to comprehend. We often search for the answers outside ourselves when the key lies inside our self, we just get to know our self. Knowing your true self will answer most of your queries. And mistake not life for the illusion that is around you. The illusion created by your self-perceptions, the family and the society.

One simple way to know yourself is to get out of your body. Then see yourself. Know that the body you are seeing is nothing more than a vehicle. A vehicle to take you through the journey of life. Once you can consciously achieve this, then your life and its meaning, and your true self will be clear as the image you see of yourself in the mirror. That very mirror, which is made of sand in which you cannot see yourself. This processing to get out of your body will make you see that self you are seeking, that`s the power! Of course, all cannot achieve this but then sometimes it is more important to discover what one cannot do than what one can do!

When situations are worrisome, be aware that there are no hopeless situations, these are only people who are hopeless about them. The wise adapt themselves to circumstances or has have the power to change circumstances according to themselves. Never forget you can only stumble if you are running, sitting can’t make you stumble. Do goodness and remember not what you have done, what you should remember always are your faults. This will give you that peace you miss in life. For, what we get, we can make a living, what we give however makes a life!

Life—An Odyssey is a choice selection of 35 musings. Each musing provides an introspective path to successfully overcome the different challenges that everyone encounters.

About the Author:

Dr Manish Maladkar, M.D., M.C.C.P.
Krishna Deva Raya (1509-1529 CE), was the famed Emperor of the Vijayanagara Empire. He was one of the greatest statesmen which medieval South India had produced.

King Krishnadeva Raya was fond of doing heavy exercises daily in the morning. He regularly applied oil on his body and thereafter worked out till all oil came out in the form of sweat. But Once the King started leading a sedentary lifestyle. He stopped all sort of exercises. The King overate and as a result, he grew fat and heavier.

Noticing this, the royal physicians cautioned the King against the ill-effects of overeating and risks posed by obesity. They advised the King to abstain from overeating and to take due care of his health. The repeated advice of the physicians and doctors for asking him to eat less made the King so angry that one day he announced a reward for anyone who could find him an easy and a proper cure. But there was one condition: those who failed would have their heads off.

What will happen now?

Who will help the king, will it be Tenali once again?

Will the king get an easy way to cure his obesity?

Read this and many more fables of Tenali Raman in this book.

Tenali Raman was a court jester, an intelligent advisor and one of the ashtadiggajas (elephants serving as pillars and taking care of all the eight sides) in the Bhuvana Vijayam (Royal Court) of the famed Emperor of Vijayanagar Empire (City of Joy) in Karnataka – Sri Krishna Deva Raya (1509-1529), the model ruler par excellence to Ashoka, Samudra Gupta and Harsha Vardhana. Tenali Raman was an embodiment of acute wit and humour and an admirable poet of knowledge, shrewdness and ingenuity. In a short span, the legacy left behind by Tenali Raman attained eternity. All these qualities of Tenali Raman have been fully explored and displayed in this collection of vibrant fables and anecdotes.

The book is a marvellous treasury of legends of Tenali Raman and Emperor Raya which evokes a long lost, never-never land: an enchanted world of alert wits and tricky gossips; crafty crooks with biting tongues, valiant brigands and an assorted cluster of uncommon common people.

Narrated by the author and superbly illustrated, “Fix Your Problems–The Tenali Raman Way” is an engaging blend of earthly wisdom and sparkling humour which deal with concepts that have certain timelessness. Each story is followed by terse moral and incalculable snippets which are usually that little extra that brings the reader a little more closer to his goal on the way to realisation. Every story purveys a pithy folk wisdom that triumphs over all trials and tribulations. The moralistic traits sagaciously portrayed by these stories intend to develop a series of impacts that can reinforce certain key ideas by the rational mind of the readers in all facets of life and propel them to the top in every endeavour. The stories various layers of meaning educates, informs, advises, enthuses, inspires and amuses and thus have a teaching effect which makes this book a must read for every aspiring individual who wants to race ahead in the world of opportunities and cusses. The book also exposes how richly endowed Bharata Khanda (India before invasions) had been in the east in the field of wisdom and knowledge down the ages of which the west is ignorant.
